Brittany Hodgson

As the founder of HMS Learning Through Equine, Brittany envisioned a space where healing, connection and personal growth could be nurtured through the unique bond between humans and horses.

Brittany is a member of the Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation in Manitoba in Treaty 2 territory, also known as the Riding Mountain Band. Brittany and her partner, Pete, are parents to three beautiful children. She is the owner and creator of HMS Learning Through Equine, where she has committed to providing Horse-based healing and learning in a culturally safe and grounded environment. Focusing on the health, restoration, and empowerment of Individuals and families through the use of horses and land-based techniques.

Brittany has always had a love for horses from a very young age. As an avid barrel racer after her post-secondary schooling, she continually demonstrates the importance of communication and understanding between horse and human.
Brittany’s passion and awareness emerged while she was an educator working for a First Nations community for over a decade, realizing the need for something more for the students in the community. Although Brittany had a passion and love for teaching, she felt compelled to help more than just the children in her class. Brittany completed her qualifications to become a certified Equine Assisted Personal Development Coach while attending the University of Regina to pursue her master’s degree in Educational Psychology and Counselling. Her education in multiple fields allows her to implement a horse-based program that enables her to share her love and personal healing experience through horses.

At HMS, we are committed to creating a program that offers compassion, empathy, and cultural safety—creating a program that honours each participant’s lived experience and diversity, creating a safe space to nurture emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental wellness in a way that is honoured and respected.

Brittany acknowledges that there are many ways, teachings, and beliefs when it comes to horses. She comes to share what she has learned and to learn from each person who attends the program. We are continuously learning, changing, and growing. She is honoured to be able to create a program in an area where she has so much love and passion. She believes this program will be life-changing and is committed to making a positive impact, promoting healing, and fostering a sense of empowerment within our nations.
