Sophie Littlechief-Carteri
With a connection with horses that began in her childhood, Sophie understands the unique comfort, trust and healing that can grow through human-animal relationships.
Sophie is a Canadian Certified Counsellor dedicated to trauma-informed and land-based healing practices. She holds a Bachelor of Indigenous Education (2013) and a Master’s in Educational Psychology (Counselling). A proud member of White Bear First Nations, Sophie grew up in oskana kâ-asastêki (Regina), Saskatchewan, on Treaty Four Territory.
For over 25 years, Sophie has worked with youth, beginning as a mentor for young Indigenous women and continuing to follow her deep passion for supporting others in their healing journeys. Her connection with horses began at the age of 12, when she started riding and competing in show jumping events. Over the past four decades, horses have remained a profound source of healing, teaching, and connection in her life.
As an Indigenous woman, Sophie also believes deeply in the wisdom and restorative power of the land, recognizing it as a vital source of balance, grounding, and renewal. Whether working with horses, walking on the land, or simply listening to the rhythms of nature, being outdoors is central to both her personal wellness and professional practice.
Sophie is honoured to be part of this land-based and equine-assisted healing program, where she can weave together her lifelong passion for horses, her cultural teachings, and her therapeutic experience to support others on their journeys towards healing and reconnection.
